Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup teriyaki sauce
  • 2 tbsp minced garlic
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp fresh grated ginger
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 2 whole green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 tsp freshly cracked black pepper

Instructions

  • Whisk together the soy sauce, teriyaki sauce, minced garlic, honey, grated ginger, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and black pepper in a medium bowl until the honey is fully dissolved.
  • Place your chosen steak (such as sirloin or ribeye) into a large bowl or a heavy-duty sealable storage bag.
  • Pour the marinade over the meat and massage it with your fingertips to ensure the steak is thoroughly coated.
  • Seal the bag or cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight for the deepest flavor.
  • Remove the steak from the marinade, pat it completely dry with paper towels to ensure a good sear, and cook over high heat until your desired level of doneness is reached.

Notes

Patting the steak dry before searing is crucial for achieving that signature hibachi-style crust. Use low-sodium soy sauce if you are sensitive to salt. If you prefer a sweeter profile, you can swap the honey for brown sugar. Always use fresh ginger rather than powdered for the best aromatic finish.
