Ingredients

  • 1 lb sirloin or flank steak
  • 1 cup long-grain white rice
  • 2 cups low-sodium beef broth
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Heat olive oil in a large, heavy-bottomed skillet over medium-high heat until it shimmers.
  • Season steak strips liberally with salt and pepper.
  • Sear the beef for 3 to 4 minutes until deeply browned, then remove from the skillet.
  • Reduce heat to medium and melt the butter in the same skillet.
  • Sauté the minced garlic for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  • Stir in the honey, soy sauce, and Dijon mustard, allowing the mixture to come to a gentle simmer.
  • Add the uncooked rice to the skillet, stirring to coat with the sauce mixture.
  • Pour in the beef broth and bring to a gentle boil.
  • Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-18 minutes until rice is tender and liquid is absorbed.
  • Return the seared steak to the skillet, toss to combine and warm through, then serve immediately.

Notes

Use high-quality beef broth for the best depth of flavor. If you prefer a faster cook, ensure your steak is sliced against the grain to maximize tenderness. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
