  • 2 pounds round steak Cut into 4-6 serving pieces
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour For dredging
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil For browning the steak
  • 2 medium onions, sliced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C).
  • Cut the round steak into 4-6 serving pieces and season with salt and pepper. Dredge each piece in flour.
  • Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the steak pieces on both sides for 3-4 minutes.
  • Transfer the browned steak to a baking dish.
  • In the same skillet, sauté the sliced onions until golden, about 6-8 minutes.
  • Add beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, dried thyme, and tomato paste to the onions. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
  • Pour the onion gravy over the steak in the baking dish.
  • Cover the dish with foil and bake for 1.5 to 2 hours.

Serving

  • Serve warm with mashed potatoes or rice, garnished with parsley.

Notes

Let leftovers cool completely before storing in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. For longer storage, freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator and reheat as needed.
